At this year’s Photonics West in San Francisco TOPTICA eagleyard launched a tapered amplifier in standard butterfly package.
Based on the already proven tapered amplifier product portfolio, two new variants will be introduced with a new package solution that brings along multiple advantages. Both offer a simple pluggable solution that is easily usable for industrial purposes as the tapered amplifier is integrated into a hermetically sealed butterfly package and is therefore very robust. It is very easy to use, as adjustment is not further needed. Moreover, the circular beam profile is beneficial for fiber coupling and focusing.
These new variants of the tapered amplifier will mainly be used in spectroscopy and atomic clocks and will also be relevant in quantum technology. Due to the ease of use, the robustness of the package and therefore scalability, not only research applications will benefit from this innovation but commercial and industry requirements are more easily fulfilled than with already available solutions. This will lead to outstanding results and applications along the value chain. For example, sensing human neuro activities for diagnostics, detecting tumors or brain-controlled exoskeletons could develop from research projects to scalable industrial production with the support of this industry-friendly new product.
