Every two years manufacturers and suppliers of medical components meet at the Medical Manufacturing Asia (MMA) to discuss the latest trends and to present their innovations to the Asian market. The MMA took place from August 31 to September 2, 2016 for the third time, co-located to Medical Fair Asia.
Popular topics where, amongst others, micro components and modules for medical technology like sensors. In particular, products which are suitable for digital applications, like wearables, were presented at the MMA.
After two successful trade fair appearances in 2012 and 2014, the IVAM Microtechnology Network once again hosted a joint pavilion with international participation. “The MMA offers the unique chance for companies to meet visitors from all over Asia at the same time. Amongst them are many visitors from the ASEAN-states, which are currently restructuring their healthcare systems and are therefore investing heavily”, comments Dr. Thomas Dietrich, CEO of IVAM. “For companies from Europe and USA, Singapore proved itself as an ideal initial point for business activities in Asia. Some members of IVAM already operate manufacturing facilities in Singapore, others largely extend their distribution, production and cooperation with local suppliers at the moment,” explains Dr. Dietrich.
At the first day of the fair, Singapore's Minister of Trade and Industry S. Iswaran visited the IVAM joint pavilion to inform himself of the importance of micro- and nanotechnology for the development of new products of medical technology.
During the MMA, IVAM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Singapore Precision Engineering and Technology Association (SPETA) to foster their cooperation in the future. In association with Messe Düsseldorf Asia, SPETA organizes the Medical Manufacturing Asia and Medical Fair Asia.
Furthermore, IVAM organized a forum session titled „High-tech for Medical Devices“, which also focused on the topic of digitalization in medical technology. At present, digitalization is a highly relevant topic in Singapore as well. The government works on the digitalization of the city in all areas of life.
Most of the international exhibitors at the IVAM joint pavilion were very satisfied with the quantity as well as the quality of new business contacts. Therefore IVAM will continue the cooperation and organize a joint participation at the MMA in 2018 again.
