Fraunhofer ITEM's mission is to protect people from health hazards in our industrialized world and to contribute to the development of novel therapeutic approaches.

The Translational Biomedical Engineering business area at Fraunhofer ITEM has many years of estensive experience in the development of medical devices - in particular for neuroimplants and respiratory drug delivery in terms of medical aerosolizers. We also provide individually tailord testing and test scenarios, as well as safety and risk assessment and offer regulatory support in compliance with the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR). 

Numerous test systems are available, including in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models. All studies can be conducted in compliance with GXP guidelines.

Fraunhofer ITEM is one out of 76 institutes and research facilities of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft - the world's leading organization for applied research.
