In the medical market, the photonics industry is seeing new product launches that have specific requirements for health applications. Europe is a source of both application markets and innovative technologies. The session on laser and photonic applications, organized and carried out in cooperation with EPIC, shows examples from developers of photonic medical devices and their supply chains.
The technical use of light - photonics for short - is considered a key technology that enables countless applications in the industrial and private sectors. For example, the Internet is based on fiber-optically transmitted data that orbits the earth at the speed of light; displays, cameras and sensors of smartphones are the interfaces to our human senses; and doctors can perform precise diagnoses and therapies that are efficient and gentle thanks to optical systems. Lasertechnology is one key enabling technology that allows the development of new tools in the medical sector related to faster diagnostic and improved process manufacturing.
Laser and photonics applications for the medical market
At the virtual COMPAMED 2020, a whole virtual expert meeting session was dedicated to this topic. The recording is still available on YouTube. A total of seven presentations were devoted to innovations in laser and photonics sector.
In this session, latest developments in medical lasers were presented. Also, the European capabilities for the manufacturing of large-volume optical modules for the medical industry have been discussed.
Below you will find the time schedule when which presentation will be shown in the video.
